Dressing for the Water & Other Safety Considerations

Postby sofa on Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:15 am

Whether the air is cold, or the water is chilly, extra considerations need to be made when it's not the middle of summer's heat!

    1. DO NOT WEAR COTTON! It holds water, and will make you colder and heavier when wet. It also will restrict your ability to move freely in the water.
    2. Wear your PFD (as opposed to just stowing it). No matter the weather, wearing it is ALWAYS a good idea.
    3. Carry a change of clothes in a dry bag.
    4. Have a bow line ready to use. They come in handy for several purposes.
    5. Carry, and know how to use, a throw bag.
    6. If you have one, a spare paddle is a good idea, especially on moving water.

...more to come... :-)
